Steve's '67 Travelall

In 1999, I purchased a rare beast...a 1967 International Travelall. It was orange when I got it, prompting me to refer to it as "The Great Pumpkin." It needs a lot of work, which I am doing bit by bit as I find the time, money, and energy to do it.

Update, 3/27/2004 - After a very long stay in Iowa and an entertaining drive back (I could not find someone willing to truck it back! Isn't there supposed to be some sort of unemployment problem going on?), the Travelall is now back here with me...it has a new engine, a new automatic transmission, a new auxiliary gas tank, a new electrical system, power steering, and air conditioning. The brakes are better and the 4WD transfer case shifter is fixed. I do recommend the Scout Connection where the work was done, but be ready if you have a lot of work that needs doing to wait a very long time to get your truck back. Mine was in Iowa from June 2002 until November 2003 when I went there and drove it home. Long story, that - with pictures as well - that I will post some other time. Suffice to say I had to do three repairs on the 2,000 mile trip home.

Update, 3/14/2002 - I got the Painless Wiring harness for the truck today. It's an 18-circuit universal, which should provide the extra capabilities I want to add.

Also recently, a second tire went flat. It's probably the valve stem like the first one, which was easily and inexpensively fixed. Now to find the time to take it to a shop to get it done!

The latest modification was adding a mighty loud AH-OOOO-GAH!! horn, although at the same time I got the radio working again.

The other thing I did recently, with Dad's help, was get the motor mount re-mounted. We used lock washers, and whatever bozo put this together last did not.

I also replaced the left rear tire with the spare not too long ago, because the regular tire had developed a flat...it took 3 days and several applications of Liquid Wrench to break the lug nuts loose! I still need to get the stupid flat fixed.

Work that needs doing:

Body work - the truck will be painted Spartan Green on the bottom and white on the very top above the rain gutter. Go Green! Go White! Along with this, there are several dents of various sizes and one rust hole about an inch in diameter just under the driver's seat.

Interior work - I want to customize the interior. I am looking at a wooden ceiling instead of a headliner that will fall apart too easily, and wood accents throughout much of the interior (some sort of light wood, a poofy designer type might say "blonde" but for me, just "light"). The seats are hell and need restuffing and reupholstering with some sort of tan cloth material. I'd also like to add two removable seats facing one another in the back which should increase the vehicle's personnel limit to as much as 13. They used to use these babies for school buses!

Other work - I am worried about the wiper blades. I would also like to add solar panels to the roof. I want new tires and if I can find some that will look better than stock, new wheels as well.
